Letters, Book 12
To Eulogius, Patriarch of Alexandria, on Converts from the Monophysites
Gregory to Eulogius, and so on.
The bearers of this letter, on coming to Sicily, were converted from the error of the Monophysites and united themselves to the holy universal church. Having gone on to the church of the blessed Peter, prince of the apostles, they asked me to commend them by letter to your blessedness, so that they may no longer be allowed to suffer any wrong from the heretics who live near them. And because one of them says that the monastery he was in had been founded by his relatives, he wishes to receive authority from your holiness, so that the heretics who are in it may either return to the bosom of holy church or be expelled from that monastery. Let it be enough for us to have pointed this out to you, for we know that your blessedness hastens with all fervor to do whatever belongs to zeal for Almighty God. But I beg you to pray for me, since amid the swords of the Lombards, which I endure, I am extremely afflicted by the pains of gout.
