Letters, Book 6
To Palladius, Bishop of Saintes, on Relics for His Altars
Gregory to Palladius, bishop of Saintes in Gaul.
Leuparic, your presbyter, who carries this letter, told us when he came to us that your fraternity has built a church in honor of the blessed apostles Peter and Paul, and also of the martyrs Lawrence and Pancratius, and has set up thirteen altars in it. Of these, we learn, four have remained not yet dedicated, because you wish to place relics of the saints just named there. And since we have reverently supplied you with relics of Saints Peter and Paul, and also of the martyrs Lawrence and Pancratius, we urge you to receive them with reverence and to place them there with the help of the Lord, providing above all that the means of support for those who serve there may not be lacking.
