To Secundinus, Bishop of Taormina, on a Monastery’s Baptistery

Gregory to Secundinus, bishop of Taormina, in Sicily. Some time ago we ordered that the baptistery be removed from the monastery of Saint Andrew, which is above Mascalae, because of the inconvenience to the monks, and that an altar be set up in the place where the fonts now are. But carrying out this order has been put off until now. We therefore urge your fraternity to allow no further delay once you have received this letter of ours, but to have the fonts themselves filled in and an altar set up there at once for the celebration of the sacred mysteries, so that these monks may be free to celebrate the work of God more securely, and so that our mind may not be provoked against your fraternity for negligence.
