Letters
To the Bishops of Campania, Samnium and Picenum, on Baptism and Penance
In this letter Leo rebukes the bishops on two counts. First, they have been performing baptisms on ordinary saints’ days, without due preparation or sufficient cause, when Easter and Pentecost are the only recognized times. Second, they have been requiring penitents to have a list of their offenses read out in public, a practice that is objectionable in many ways.
