Letters
To the Empress Pulcheria, the Shorter Letter
This letter is much shorter than the letter to Pulcheria that follows it in this book, which was written on the same day, but it says nearly the same thing. This one comes with a Greek translation and is properly dated, while the longer one has neither. So the Ballerini brothers seem to be right in thinking that this letter was sent but never reached Pulcheria (compare the opening of Leo’s later letter to her on the synod at Ephesus, later in this book), and that the longer one was for some reason never used. Of the two, the English edition prints the longer one in its place, as the fuller treatment of the subject.
