From the Forty-Fifth Festal Letter, for Easter 373

Let us all take up our sacrifices, taking care to share with the poor, and let us enter the holy place, as it is written, “where our forerunner Jesus has entered for us, having obtained eternal redemption.” And from the same letter: And this is a great proof that, though we were strangers, we are called friends; that we who were once aliens have become fellow citizens with the saints, and are called children of the Jerusalem above, of which the one Solomon built was a type. For if Moses made everything according to the pattern shown him on the mountain, it is clear that the service performed in the tabernacle was a type of the heavenly mysteries. The Lord wanted us to enter into these, and so he prepared for us the new and lasting way. And as all the old things were a type of the new, so the festival we now keep is a type of the joy above. Let us come to it with psalms and spiritual songs, and let us begin the fasts.
