On the Incarnation, Book 6
Come Back to the Faith of Your Baptism
And so, you wretched, insane, obstinate creature, you see that you have utterly overturned the whole faith of the creed, and everything of value in our hope and in the mysteries. And yet you still dare to remain in the church, and imagine that you are a priest, though you have denied everything by which you came to be a priest.
Turn back, then, to the right way, and recover your former mind. Return to your senses, if you ever had any. Come to yourself, if there was ever a self in you to come back to. Acknowledge the sacraments of your salvation, by which you were initiated and born anew. They are no less useful to you now than they were then; for now they can give you new birth through penance, as they once gave you birth through the font.
Hold fast the whole order of the creed. Hold the entire truth of the faith. Believe in God the Father; believe in God the Son: in the one who begot and the one who was begotten, the Lord of all, Jesus Christ; of one substance with the Father; begotten in his divinity, born in the flesh; of twofold birth, yet of only one glory; who, himself the creator of all things, was begotten of the Father, and was afterward born of the Virgin.
