How Quarrels Arise Among Spiritual People
For just as our enemy separates brothers who are still weak and of the flesh by a sudden burst of rage over some trifling and earthly matter, so he sows the seeds of discord even between spiritual people, on the ground of some difference in their thoughts. From this, certainly, arise for the most part those contentions and quarrels about words that the apostle condemns. And so by them our spiteful and malicious enemy sows discord between brothers who were of one mind. For these words of wise Solomon are true: “Contention breeds hatred, but friendship will be a defense to all who do not quarrel.”
