Thanksgivings

Then in the fourth place come thanksgivings, which the mind offers up to God in raptures beyond words. It does this when it remembers God’s past benefits, or when it contemplates his present ones, or when it looks forward to those great ones in the future which God has prepared for those who love him. With this purpose too we sometimes pour out richer prayers. As we gaze with pure eyes on the rewards of the saints that are stored up for the life hereafter, our spirit is moved to offer up unspeakable thanks to God with boundless joy. [a]
