The Conferences, Conference 7
An Objection from Those Possessed by Spirits
We think this idea is contradicted clearly enough by what we see happen with the possessed, when under the influence of the spirits they say and do things they know nothing of. How, then, can we refuse to believe that their souls are united to those spirits, when we see them made into the spirits’ instruments, leaving their natural condition and yielding to the spirits’ movements and moods, so that they no longer give expression to their own words, actions and wishes, but to those of the demons?
