A Stamp of Hard Steel

And so the mind of the upright man ought not to be like wax, or any other soft material that always yields to the shape of whatever presses on it. Wax takes the form and impression of the seal and keeps it until it takes another shape when another seal is stamped on it. So it never keeps a form of its own, but is turned and twisted to match whatever is pressed on it. He should rather be like a stamp of hard steel. Then the mind will always keep its own form and shape unharmed, and it will stamp and imprint the marks of its own condition on everything that meets it, while nothing that happens can leave any mark on the mind itself.
