Only the Lord Was Tempted Without Sin

And so our Lord Jesus Christ, though the apostle’s word declares that he was tempted in every way as we are, is still said to have been “without sin,” that is, without the infection of this appetite. For he knew nothing of the promptings of carnal lust, by which we are sure to be troubled even against our will and without our knowing it. For the archangel describes the manner of his conception like this: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore what will be born of you will be called holy, the Son of God.”
