Thanks for God’s Daily Providence

Let us give thanks to him not only because he created us as rational beings, endowed us with the power of free will, blessed us with the grace of baptism, and granted us the knowledge and help of the law, but also for the things he gives us by his daily providence. He delivers us from the cunning of our enemies. He works with us so that we can overcome the sins of the flesh. Even without our knowing it, he shields us from dangers. He protects us from falling into sin. He helps us and enlightens us, so that we can understand and recognize the very help he gives us (some claim that this is what is meant by the law). When, under his influence, we are secretly pierced with sorrow for our sins and our negligence, he looks on us and corrects us for the health of our soul. Even against our will we are sometimes drawn by him to salvation. And lastly, this very free will of ours, which leans more readily toward sin, is turned by him to a better purpose and bent toward the way of virtue by his prompting and suggestion.
