Lastly, the other passions, which are entirely different from the virtues opposed to them and attack us openly, in broad daylight as it were, are more easily overcome and guarded against. But this one is woven in among our virtues and tangled up in the battle. Fighting as if under cover of night, it deceives all the more dangerously those who are off their guard and not watching for it.
