The Heresy of Macedonius

When the Arians had brought about the death of Paul, or rather had sent him on to the kingdom of heaven, they promoted Macedonius in his place. They supposed that he held the same views and belonged to the same faction as themselves, because he, like them, blasphemed the Holy Spirit. But shortly afterward they deposed him too, because he refused to call the one whom the Holy Scriptures declare to be the Son of God a creature. After his separation from them he became the leader of a sect of his own. He taught that the Son of God is not of one substance with the Father but is like him in every respect. He also openly declared that the Holy Spirit is a creature. These things happened, as we have told them, not long afterward.
