To Eulogius the Steward
We have heard from many sources of your piety’s efforts on behalf of true religion. It is right, then, that you should readily come to the help of one who is slandered for the same cause, and should refute the lies of the one who reviles him. You, godly sir, know what I hold and what I teach, and that no one has ever heard me preach two sons. I beg you, put your divine energy to work in this case too, and stop the mouths of those who speak evil. In conflicts of this kind one must help not only one’s friends but even those who have caused us pain.
