To the Prefect Eutrechius, on His Appointment

Among other blessings, the Ruler of the universe has granted us to hear of your excellency’s honor, and to congratulate both you on your promotion and your subjects on so gentle a rule. I thought it would be wrong to give no expression to my satisfaction, and not to show it by letter. Your magnificence knows very well how warm our affection for you is, an affection you most warmly return. And being so filled with love, we beg the Giver of all good things always to pour his many gifts upon you. [a]
