Church History, Book 5
The Church of the Goths
John saw that the Scythians were caught in the Arian net, so he devised a counter-plan and found a way to win them over. He appointed presbyters, deacons and readers of the divine oracles who spoke the Scythian tongue, and he gave them a church. Through these men he won many away from their error. He often went there himself and preached, using an interpreter who knew both languages, and he had other good speakers do the same. This was his constant practice in the city, and by showing them the truth of the apostles’ preaching he rescued many who had been deceived.
