The Apology of Rufinus, Book 2
A Story About Origen
Once more, in his letter to Marcella he says: “Ambrose supplied the paper, the money and the secretaries with whose help our Adamantius, our Man of Brass, completed his countless books. In a letter he wrote to that same man from Athens, Ambrose declares that he never had a meal with Origen without something being read, and that he never went to bed without one of the brothers reading aloud from the holy Scriptures. He said he kept this up day and night, so that prayer followed on reading, and reading on prayer.”
