The Preface to Micah

Again, in the preface to his Commentary on Micah, which was written to Paula and Eustochium, he says, after a few remarks: “They say that it is wrong for me to plunder the works of Origen and so to defile the writings of the ancients. They think this a telling piece of abuse. In my opinion it is the highest praise, since I am trying to imitate those who are approved not only by us but by all thoughtful people.” [a]
