Phileas the Bishop

Phileas lived in the Egyptian city called Thmuis, and he was of noble family and no small wealth. Having become bishop, he composed a finely written work in praise of the martyrs. Arguing against the judge who tried to compel him to offer sacrifice, he was beheaded for Christ during the same persecution in which Lucian was put to death at Nicomedia. [a]
