Novatian, Founder of a Heresy

Novatian, a presbyter of Rome, tried to seize the priestly chair held by Cornelius, and he established the teaching of the Novatians, or, as they are called in Greek, the Cathari, by refusing to take back apostates who repented. Novatus, the author of this teaching, was a presbyter of Cyprian. Novatian wrote On the Passover, On the Sabbath, On Circumcision, On the Priesthood, On Prayer, On the Food of the Jews, On Zeal, On Attalus, and many others, above all a great volume On the Trinity, a kind of summary of the work of Tertullian, which many wrongly ascribe to Cyprian.
