John the Presbyter

John of Antioch, first a grammarian and then a presbyter, wrote against those who assert that Christ is to be worshiped in one substance only, and who do not admit that two natures are to be recognized in Christ. He taught, according to the account of Scripture, that in him God and man exist in one person, and not the flesh and the Word in one nature. He also attacked certain statements that Cyril, bishop of Alexandria, had unwisely made against Nestorius, which now encourage and strengthen the Timotheans. He is said to be still living and preaching.
