Gennadius
Sidonius the Bishop
Sidonius, bishop of the Arverni, wrote several acceptable works. He was a man sound in doctrine, thoroughly steeped in divine and human learning, and of commanding talent, and he wrote a considerable volume of letters to various people, in various meters or in prose, which showed his ability in literature. Strong in Christian vigor even in the midst of the barbarian ferocity that oppressed the Gauls at that time, he was regarded as a catholic father and a distinguished teacher. He flourished during the storms that marked the rule of Leo and Zeno.
