Leo the Bishop

Leo, bishop of Rome, wrote a letter to Flavian, bishop of the church at Constantinople, against Eutyches the presbyter, who at that time, out of ambition for the office of bishop, was trying to bring novelties into the church. In it he advises Flavian to receive Eutyches if he confesses his error and promises to amend, but if he persists in the course he has begun, to condemn him together with his heresy. In this letter he likewise teaches, and confirms by divine testimony, that just as the Lord Jesus Christ is to be considered the true Son of the divine Father, so he is also to be considered true man with a human nature. That is, he took a body of flesh from the flesh of the Virgin, and did not, as Eutyches claimed, show a body from heaven. He died in the reign of Leo and Majorian.
