Gennadius

Simplician the Bishop

Simplician the bishop urged Augustine, who was then a presbyter, in many letters to use his talent and give his time to explaining the Scriptures, so that a new Ambrose, as it were, the taskmaster of Origen, might appear. For this reason he also sent him many questions about the Scriptures. There is also a letter of his, of Questions, in which he teaches by asking questions, as if he wished to learn.
