Gennadius
Faustinus the Presbyter
Faustinus the presbyter wrote seven books Against the Arians and Macedonians to Queen Flaccilla, arguing against them and convicting them by the testimony of the very Scriptures that they twisted into blasphemy. Together with a certain presbyter named Marcellinus, he also wrote a book addressed to the emperors Valentinian, Theodosius and Arcadius, in defense of their fellow Christians. From this it appears that he went along with the Luciferian schism, for in this same book he blames Hilary of Poitiers and Damasus, bishop of Rome, for giving the church ill-advised counsel, advising that the apostate bishops be received into communion for the sake of restoring peace. For to the Luciferians it was as displeasing to receive the bishops who at the Council of Ariminum had been in communion with Arius as it was to the Novatians to receive the penitent apostates.
