Didymus the Blind
Didymus of Alexandria became blind while very young, and so he never learned even the first elements of letters. Yet he showed such a miracle of intelligence that he mastered logic perfectly, and even geometry, sciences that above all require sight. He wrote many admirable works: Commentaries on all the Psalms; Commentaries on the Gospels of Matthew and John; On Doctrines; two books Against the Arians; one book On the Holy Spirit, which I translated into Latin; eighteen volumes On Isaiah; three books of commentaries On Hosea, addressed to me; five books On Zechariah, written at my request; commentaries On Job; and many other things, which it would be a work of its own to list. He is still living, and he has already passed his eighty-third year.
