Jerome
Apollinaris the Bishop
Apollinaris, bishop of Laodicea in Syria, was the son of a presbyter. In his youth he gave himself to the careful study of grammar, and afterward he wrote countless volumes on the Holy Scriptures. He died in the reign of the emperor Theodosius. Thirty books of his Against Porphyry are still in existence, and they are generally considered among the best of his works.
