Sardica, Latin Canon 18: Taking Another Bishop’s Clergy

Canon 18 of the Latin text, which stands after Canon 14. Bishop Januarius said: “Let your holiness decree this too: that no bishop be allowed to try to win over for himself a minister from the church of a bishop of another city, and ordain him for one of his own parishes.” [a] All said: “This is our will, since discord tends to spring from quarrels over this matter. And so the sentence of us all forbids anyone to presume to do this.”
