The Council of Chalcedon (451)
The Sentence Sent to Dioscorus
The holy, great and ecumenical synod, assembled by the grace of God according to the decree of our most pious emperors, beloved of God, at Chalcedon, the city of Bithynia, in the martyr’s shrine of the most holy and victorious martyr Euphemia, to Dioscorus. We inform you that on the thirteenth day of the month of October you were deposed from the office of bishop and made a stranger to all church order by the holy and ecumenical synod. This was because of your disregard of the divine canons, your disobedience to this holy and ecumenical synod, and the other crimes of which you have been found guilty. For even when this holy and great synod called you three times, according to the divine canons, to answer your accusers, you did not come.
