Cyril to the Bishops of Libya and Pentapolis
There is another letter of the same Father, complaining to the bishops of Libya and Pentapolis. Some men who had been refused ordination by their own bishop, or thrown out of the monasteries for their disorderly conduct, had been ordained by catching some other bishop off guard. Then, straight from their wedding bed, they went and made the offering, or performed some other office, in the very monasteries from which they had been thrown out, and this gave great offense. He charges the bishops to take care of this in the future, and, if any were to be ordained, to inquire into their lives, and whether they are married, and when, and how. And he orders that catechumens who had been set apart for having fallen be baptized at the hour of death.
