Cyril of Alexandria to Domnus

Cyril to Domnus. This letter contains the complaint of a certain Peter, removed from his see yet still keeping the rank of a bishop. He thought his cause a good one, but complained that he had not been given time and opportunity for his defense, and that everything he had was taken away from him. He asks Domnus, who was a metropolitan, to call a synod and give him a hearing, and not to allow any bishops whom Peter suspected of prejudice against him to be his judges. He thinks it very hard that not only what belonged to the church but everything else was taken from him; and he complains that all bishops were being called to account for everything they received, whether from the church or by any other means. Peter had indeed signed a written resignation; but Cyril says that he was frightened into it, and that he would not have any such resignation take effect unless the one who made it deserved to be deposed.
