Theophilus of Alexandria: Three Rulings
Theophilus to Bishop Agatho
Since Maximus has lived in an unlawful marriage for ten years, but claims it was through ignorance, and says that they have now separated by mutual consent, let them stand among the catechumens, if it is clear that they are in earnest.
Theophilus to Bishop Menas
Theophilus was told that the priest at Geminus, a village, had turned away a woman named Kyradium from communion. Theophilus approves of this, because she had done wrong and was unwilling to make amends; but he orders that she be admitted to communion when she repents.
Theophilus on the Cathari
Since the great synod held at Nicaea decreed that clergy who come over to the church from the Novatians are to be ordained, ordain those who come over, if their life is upright and there is no objection.
