Amphilochius on the Books of Scripture

We should know that not every book called Scripture is to be received as a safe guide. For some are fairly sound, and others are more than doubtful. So I will list the books that the inspiration of God has given. Editor’s note: Here follows a list of the protocanonical books of the Old Testament, with only Esther left out. All the deuterocanonical books are left out. He then goes on: To these some add Esther. I must now show which are the books of the New Testament. Editor’s note: Here follow all the books of the New Testament except the Revelation. He goes on: But some add to these the Revelation of John, though by far the greater number say that it is spurious. This is the truest canon of the divinely given Scriptures.
