Book 4
Constantius Buries Him in Constantinople
So they showed their respect there for the memory of the one God had honored. But the second of his sons, who had arrived by this time, held his father’s funeral in the city that bears his name. He led the procession himself. Ahead of it went detachments of soldiers in military array, and vast crowds followed behind, while the body itself was surrounded by companies of spearmen and heavy infantry. When the procession reached the church dedicated to the apostles of our Savior, the coffin was laid in its tomb there. Such was the honor the young emperor Constantius paid to his dead father, both by his presence and by the proper performance of this sacred ceremony.
