Envoys and Gifts from India

About this time envoys from the Indians, who live in the distant regions of the East, arrived with gifts: many kinds of brilliant precious stones, and animals of species unlike those known to us. They presented these offerings to the emperor, and so acknowledged that his rule reached even to the Indian Ocean, and that the princes of their country, who paid him honor with paintings and statues, recognized his imperial and supreme authority. In this way the Indians of the East now submitted to his rule, as the Britons of the Western Ocean had done at the beginning of his reign.
