How the Copies Were Provided
Such were the emperor’s orders, and the work itself was carried out at once. We sent him the copies in magnificent and elaborately bound volumes, made up in threes and fours. This is shown by another letter the emperor wrote in acknowledgment. In it, having heard that the city of Constantia in our country, whose people had been more than usually devoted to superstition, had been moved by a sense of religion to give up their former idolatry, he expressed his joy and his approval of what they had done.
