Book 4
He Commends the Christians of Persia to the King’s Care
“Imagine, then, how glad I was to hear news so much in keeping with my wishes: that the finest regions of Persia are filled with those people for whose sake alone I am now speaking, I mean the Christians. I pray, therefore, that both you and they may enjoy abundant prosperity, and that your blessings and theirs may be equal. For so you will know the mercy and favor of that God who is the Lord and Father of all. And now, because your power is great, I commend these people to your protection; because your piety is outstanding, I entrust them to your care. Cherish them with your usual humanity and kindness, for by this proof of faith you will gain an immeasurable benefit both for yourself and for us.”
