Book 3
The Roof, the Workmen and the Materials
“As for the ceiling of the church, I wish to know from you whether in your judgment it should be coffered or finished in some other kind of workmanship. If the coffered ceiling is chosen, it may also be decorated with gold. For the rest, Your Holiness will inform the officials I have mentioned as soon as possible how many laborers and craftsmen, and how much money, are needed. You will also take care to send us a report without delay, not only about the marbles and columns, but about the coffered ceiling as well, if this seems to you the most beautiful form. God keep you, beloved brother!”
