Constantine Ordained a Presbyter, and His End

After this victory the troops of Honorius laid siege to the city again. When Constantine heard of the death of Edovicus, he threw off his purple robe and imperial ornaments, went to the church, and had himself ordained a presbyter. Those inside the walls first received sworn promises, then opened the gates, and their lives were spared. From that time the whole province returned to its loyalty to Honorius, and it has obeyed the rulers he appointed ever since. Constantine, with his son Julian, was sent to Italy, but he was ambushed and killed on the way. Not long afterward Jovinus and Maximus, the usurpers mentioned above, Saros, and many others who had plotted against Honorius were unexpectedly killed.
