Cerdon at Alexandria

Eusebius: The Church History

The Church History, Book 3

Cerdon at Alexandria

After Nerva had reigned a little more than a year, Trajan succeeded him. It was in his first year that Cerdon succeeded Abilius, who had led the community at Alexandria for thirteen years. He was the third to preside there after Annianus, the first. At that time Clement was still leading the Romans, he too holding the third place among those who were bishops there after Paul and Peter. Linus was the first, and after him Anencletus.
