The Church History, Book 3
Domitian Persecutes
Domitian showed great cruelty toward many. He put to death no small number of men of noble birth and notable men at Rome without any reasonable trial, and without cause he punished countless other distinguished men with exile beyond the borders and the loss of their property. In the end he made himself the successor of Nero’s hatred of God and war against God. He was, in fact, the second to stir up persecution against us, although his father Vespasian had planned nothing wrong against us.
