Mark in Egypt

They say that this Mark was the first to be sent to Egypt, that he preached there the Gospel he had also written, and that he was the first to establish churches in Alexandria itself. [a] So great a multitude of believers, men and women, gathered there from the very first attempt, with a discipline so philosophical and so intense, that Philo thought their pursuits, their meetings, their common meals, and all the rest of their way of life worth describing in writing.
