Queen Helena's Grain

“In addition to these things it happened that the great famine came on Judea, in which Queen Helena bought grain from Egypt for large sums of money and distributed it to the needy.” [a] You will find that this too agrees with the Acts of the Apostles, which records that the disciples at Antioch, “each according to his means, determined to send relief to those living in Judea; and they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Paul.” [b] Splendid monuments of this Helena, whom the historian has mentioned, are still shown in the suburbs of the city now called Aelia. She was said to have been queen of the nation of the Adiabenians. [c]
