Malchion Exposes Paul

Under Aurelian a final synod was gathered, made up of a very great number of bishops. The leader of the heresy at Antioch was caught out, clearly condemned by all for his false teaching, and publicly expelled from the universal Church under heaven. The one who most of all called him to account and refuted him, when he tried to hide, was Malchion. He was a learned man in other ways and the head of a school of rhetoric, one of the Greek places of learning at Antioch; but because of the outstanding genuineness of his faith in Christ he had also been made a presbyter of the church there. He held a debate with Paul, which shorthand writers took down and which we know is still in circulation, and he alone was able to catch out the man, secretive and deceitful as he was.
