The Church History, Book 7
The Chair of James
The chair of James has been kept down to the present day. He was the first to receive the office of bishop of the church at Jerusalem from the Savior and the apostles, and the divine writings tell us that he was called a brother of Christ. The brothers there, who have cared for the chair in succession, show plainly to everyone the reverence that people of old and of our own day alike have kept, and still keep, for holy men because they were dear to God. So much for this.
