The Church History, Book 7

Bishops of That Time

At that time Xystus was still leading the church of Rome, and Demetrianus, after Fabius, the church of Antioch, and Firmilian that of Caesarea in Cappadocia. Besides these, Gregory and his brother Athenodorus, pupils of Origen, led the churches of Pontus. At Caesarea in Palestine, when Theoctistus died, Domnus succeeded to the office of bishop. He lasted only a short time, and Theotecnus, of our own day, was appointed his successor; he too was of Origen’s school. And at Jerusalem, when Mazabanes went to his rest, Hymenaeus succeeded to his throne, a man who also has been distinguished for a great many years in our own time.
