Dionysius Against Novatian

“We have good reason to be hostile to Novatian. He has cut the Church in pieces, dragged some of the brothers into impiety and blasphemy, brought in the most unholy teaching about God, and slandered our most kind Lord Jesus Christ as merciless. On top of all this, he sets aside the holy washing, overturns the faith and confession that come before it, and drives the Holy Spirit away from them altogether, if there was any hope that he would stay with them or come back to them.” [a]
