Heraclas Shares the Teaching

Origen saw that he was not equal to the deeper study of divine things, the examination and interpretation of the sacred writings, and the instruction of those who came to him as well; for they would not even let him breathe, one group after another coming to his school from morning until evening. So he divided the crowds. From among his students he chose Heraclas, a man zealous in divine things, very learned besides, and no stranger to philosophy, and made him his partner in the instruction. He entrusted to him the first introduction of those just learning the elements, and kept for himself the teaching of those who were already advanced.
